Roger goes to work

Roger with Sylvia McFee and her kindergarten class
Roger put on his poet's hat today and visited the Golden Learning Centre - the elementary (primary) school in Balmertown.

His performances seem to have gone down well - he signed lots of autographs.

And when I went to collect him I got lots of big hugs from the children in the senior kindergarten class, the equivalent of our reception class.

Roger with his gifts
As a 'thank you' for his visit, the school gave Roger a mug decorated with a painting by Morriseau, a card featuring a Roy Thomas painting and a fridge magnet - very appropriate since we'd been to a Thomas exhibition in Thunder Bay, read about Morriseau (who inspired Thomas), who lived in Red Lake, and we collect fridge magnets as mementoes of places we have visited.

Nancy Phillips, the librarian who organised the visit with my Cousin Robin, also showed us the school garden and picked us some tomatoes.

  2. Yes, I had a lovely morning in the school. And I discovered what I've always suspected was true - that children are much the same wherever you travel. My favourite question from the Q and A session with the grade 4/5/6 group was - "Have you met Queen Elizabeth?" And so I told them how she once popped round for a cup of sugar.

  4. Sounds like you are having a fun time and boosting your fridge magnet collection. How come you don't have a Northwich fridge magnet? I'll have to find you one.
