A mining community

While Roger waxed poetical at the Golden Learning Centre, I explored the Red Lake area. It's beautiful, because there is so much water and so many trees - but it's very much a mining community and there's nothing very picturesque about the mines or the industry that supports them. But they do have their own interesting sort of beauty...
Nestling by the lake among the trees...
Goldcorp - says it all!
Red Lake airport, once the busiest in the world - it's true, honest!
See, told you!
Romantic sounding names abound - Northern Visions...
Eagle River Enterprises - the owner saw me snapping and wanted to know why. Turned out he had an English grandfather so all was well
Not quite as impressive as Randy and Maureen's fifth wheel, but  a typical caravan (trailer) seen in very many driveways - this one next door to the Mine Rescue Station

I bought a lottery ticket here
The mine shaft is always at the end of the road

Haven't seen any stray dogs - perhaps this is why
